Punaloor: Thenmala native Niyas, who was taken into police custody in connection with the murder of Kevin, is innocent, claimed Niyas mother Laila Beevi. She is also a relative of Kevin’s wife Neenu. Neenu’s brother Shanu took Niyas from his house and he was cheated, she added. Shanu took Niyas from home saying they need a driver. Shanu called Niyas in the wee hours of Thursday and asked to come with a rented vehicle. He said that the vehicle was to bring Neenu home as she was sick. But Niyas rejected his demand because his mother was alone at home. Later Shanu asked me to tell Niyas to accompany him. But I told him that I can’t because I was alone,’ Laila Beevi said.
